Steam Treatment With Essential Oils For Radinat, Glowing Skin

A once a week dose of steam on your face is an excellent treatment for radiant, glowing skin. This is because steaming deeply cleanses your skin by opening up pores, which in turn loosens grime, dead skin, hardened sebum, dust, and traces of makeup. Steam also helps hydrate and relax the skin, because it increases blood supply, which in turn brings more oxygen and nutrients to the skin. The result: Enhanced skin tone, clearer skin, and a radiant glow.

Steaming is easy to do at home, and with a few essential oils, you can create your own spa-like steam treatment for your specific skin type.

You will need:

  • Headband or shower cap to hold back your hair
  • Bowl
  • Boiling water
  • Essential oils
  • Towel

Simply put approximately 2 litres of hot water in a bowl on a non-slip surface. Add drops of essential oils of your choice into the water. Quickly bend over the bowl, ensuring your face is at least 20 cm from the water, then place a towel over your head so that the steam is directed towards your face. Close your eyes and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, to further relax your skin and general wellbeing. Enjoy the steam for 5 to 15 minutes.

For the ultimate spa-like experience, add a few drops of the following essential oil combinations, to provide optimal nourishment for your specific skin type:

FOR DEEP CLEANSING: 1 drop eucalyptus + 2 drops lemon + 1 drop frankincense

FOR HYDRATING: 2 drops sandalwood + 1 drop lavender + 1 drop palmarosa

FOR SOFTENING: 2 drops lavender + 1 drop frankincense + 1 drop orange

FOR CALMING AND SOOTHING (great for those with eczema, dermatitis or acne): 2 drops tea tree + 1 drop cedarwood + 1 drop lavender

Note: Avoid steaming if you are sun burnt or have broken capillaries on your face. Also, if you are asthmatic or have any lung problems, avoid using essential oils in the water unless you are confident your breathing will not be affected.
